Debye cooling — where it appears

The accelerated cooling of a crystallised white dwarf, whose lattice heat capacity falls as the cube of the temperature. The vibrational modes freeze out one by one once the star is below its Debye temperature, and the star runs out of stored heat far sooner than the liquid law predicts.
