Planck function — where it appears

The spectral radiance of a blackbody at a given temperature, the expression Planck fitted in 1900 and derived eight weeks later by quantising an oscillator's energy. Normalised by its own peak it is a universal shape, from which Wien's law and Stefan–Boltzmann follow as its peak and its integral.
