Aperture synthesis — where it appears

The construction of an image from Fourier components of the sky, each measured by one pair of telescopes at the spatial frequency their separation sets. Earth rotation sweeps every baseline through the transform plane, and the holes left in the sampling are exactly what the synthesised beam's sidelobes are.
