Equation of centre — where it appears

The angle by which a body on an elliptical orbit is ahead of or behind where it would be if it moved uniformly: its true anomaly minus its mean anomaly. It swings by about twice the eccentricity in radians each orbit and drives the eccentric part of the equation of time.
