Relaxation — where it appears

The process by which repeated two-body encounters redistribute energy among a system's members, on a timescale far longer than the time to cross it. Its timescale is the crossing time times roughly a tenth of the number of bodies, which is a billion years for a globular cluster and a hundred million billion for a galaxy.
