Concept

Stellar spectra — where it appears

A star's light distributed with wavelength: a continuum close to a blackbody with thousands of absorption lines cut into it. The continuum gives a temperature and the lines a composition, a gravity and a velocity, and the continuum's departure from a blackbody is why a colour temperature is not an effective one.
