Concept

Cluster age — where it appears

The age of a star cluster, read from the mass at which its members are leaving the main sequence. It owes nothing to any other measurement made on the cluster, which is what lets a cluster calibrate clocks — a tidal circularisation boundary, a rotation rate — that a field star cannot.

Named by 2 essays across one field — each of them below, with the objects they name alongside it.

Also named here as dynamical tide, turbulent viscosity — the same set of essays touches all of them, so they are one junction rather than several.

Named alongside it
