Hydrodynamic escape — where it appears

Atmospheric loss in which the whole upper atmosphere flows outwards as a transonic wind rather than leaking from a velocity distribution's tail. It is driven by absorbed stellar ultraviolet, and it removes gas that thermal escape alone would comfortably retain.
