Alfven radius — where it appears

The distance at which a star's magnetic field stops enforcing corotation on its wind, because the outflow's kinetic energy density there matches the field's. Inside it the gas is carried round with the star; outside it the gas goes straight and drags the field into a spiral. It is the lever arm on which a wind removes angular momentum.

Named by 3 essays across 3 fields — each of them below, with the objects they name alongside it.
